Step 2: Say No to Fur
Stop buying items made with fur. Period. Fur is nothing more than a status symbol—an unnecessary evil. You probably don’t buy fur anyway, so giving it up will be no big deal.
Animals on fur farms spend their entire lives confined to cramped, filthy wire cages. Fur farmers use the cheapest and cruelest killing methods available, including suffocation, electrocution, gas, and poison. ~Source: PETA
True Story: A week after I went vegetarian in ’85, my mom came home with a brand, new full-length mink fur coat. I had taken a stand and so had she. My heart broke. I thought she would be the one to understand. She was my mom after all. In all likelihood, she had ordered this coat weeks before I made my vegetarian declaration. It still felt like a slap in the face. That coat still hangs in her closet. It’s a reminder that the only control I have is over myself. Live and let live.
