Welcome to It’s Easy Being Vegan. I’m Christine, a vegan (VEE-gun) living in the San Francisco Bay Area. I like to think of myself as the vegan girl next door. When I learned about animal suffering from People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) as a naïve 17-year-old living in Indiana, I immediately took the veg pledge, but it took me another 19 years to go vegan.
In those early days, I didn’t know anyone who was vegetarian or who knew anything about the animal protection movement. This was before the internet and access to information was limited. I grew up around hunters and meat-eaters. That was the norm. I didn’t want to be different but my moral compass pointed in a different direction.
Over time I learned to be myself. It was a slow journey to veganism, but I have been living happily as a vegan since 2005. While I don’t always think it’s easy being vegan, there has never been a time when it has been easier. And, more importantly, being vegan isn’t about easy living. It’s about taking care of the animals, the planet and our health. On the blog I explore the ins and outs of veganism as well as share favorite recipes.
