Making Vegan Easy Week 44 Round-Up

Every day in 2012 I’m posting one tip on my Facebook page to make living vegan easier. It’s going to take an army of vegans to move the world in a more compassionate direction. Join us today.

Snippet of 2012 Vision Board

Tip #299: Respect, Refuse, reduce, reuse, Repair, Repurpose and then recycle. Throw away as a last resort.

Tip #300: The Virtual Vegan Potluck starts November 1.

Tip #301: Once you’ve gone vegan and you’re truly committed, you will be known as “the vegan.” Be willing and prepared to discuss veganism at any time…from whatever angle you come to it by—be it animal rights, health or the environment. Many people want to know more about this lifestyle. An informed vegan can do a world of good by just having an intelligent and friendly conversation about it.

Tip #302: Take only what you need.

Tip #303: Practice what you know.

Tip #304: Community is important. Say hi to your neighbors. Ask them for help and offer to help. It’s a great way to build a strong community.

Tip #305: Choose a black cat or dog the next time you adopt a pet. When I learned about “Black Dog Syndrome” I was dumbfounded. I have had numerous black pets over the years and each one was just as wonderful as my very first cat named Snowball.

Tip #306: November 1 is World Vegan Day and the start of World Vegan Month. How about introducing one person to the vegan lifestyle this month?

Tip #307: Get active on your birthday. In lieu of gifts or fanfare, ask your friends and family to donate to your favorite charity or ask them to go vegan for the day.

Tip #308: One of my favorite blogs went dark about two years ago, so I was excited to see it’s being updated again. Check out Veganyumyum for the great recipes and gorgeous food photos.

Tip #253: Want to learn more about making your own vegan cheese? Mark your calendars then for the upcoming Vegan cheese Twitter chat hosted by VegNews on September 19. [Update: VegNews typically will post the transcripts post chat if you missed this event.]

Tip #254: Everything you do has an impact on the world. Understanding your impact is a great first step on the path to changing the world for the better. Learn about your impact here by first calculating your carbon footprint.

I hadn’t done this in a while and was surprised to see so much improvement in my impact. Give it a try and see where you’re at.

Tip #255: 7 (free!) Ways to Reduce and Reuse from VegNews.

Tip #256: More ways to reduce your impact on the environment.

Tip #257: After a summer-like day yesterday, it feels like fall in Chicago this morning. Soon winter will be here. Personally I’m looking forward to it after a summer without air conditioning. To stay warm, I wear coats made with Thinsulate. It’s a great alternative to wool or down.

Tip #258: Fleece is another one of my favorite stay-warm fabrics. To learn about other vegan fabrics and materials, check out Vegans of Instagram.

Making Vegan Easy Week 36 Round-Up

Every day in 2012 I am posting one tip on my Facebook page to make living vegan easier. It’s going to take an army of vegans to move the world in a more compassionate direction. Join us today!

Tip #246: Love wins.

Tip #247: Take the day off! Happy Labor Day to those in the U.S.

Tip #248: If you want more peace in the world, a good place to start is finding it within yourself. Imagine if we all did that. Wouldn’t the world be better for it?

Tip #249: Watch Bag It, the documentary about plastic bags, and then buy an It’s Easy Being Vegan reusable bag!

Tip #250: Free Access to some of the Veganpalooza speakers for the next 48 hours. Now’s your chance to listen to a few experts on vegan nutrition and lifestyle. (Want to know about these types of event in real time, so you don’t miss them? Like my Facebook page for daily updates and tips.)

Tip #251: As I rode my bike to a yoga class this week, I cycled past two people rolling down the bike path in wheel chairs. This reminded me how fortunate I am that I can ride my bike, practice yoga, walk – move about freely. Be grateful and get some exercise today.

Tip #252: Practice the principle of “leave no trace” to reduce your impact. This principle can be expanded beyond natural environments to include urban areas and even inside your own home.

Tip #206: Smile.

Tip #207: I don’t know about you but I don’t like to exercise when it’s hot outside. In fact, I get really, really lazy. Maybe some of you feel the same way? Then, here’s a friendly reminder. Daily exercise is important.

What Happens When a Vegan Meets a Vegetarian Environmentalist?

They get engaged and it gets hot. Really f*!#ing hot. It’s not what you think.

I may not be using it, but I’m certainly not ready to find a new home for it either.

Environmentalists don’t like air conditioning. I like A/C a lot. So do my cats. It makes my life comfortable. I don’t like to sit in my living room and sweat — while doing absolutely nothing. That’s what I’m doing right now. Sweat is dripping down my chest and I’m barely moving. My feet feel like they are on fire.  Too much movement makes it worse. If I lie really still on the bed with the fan on over head, I can handle it. Doesn’t make for a productive citizen of the world though.
