Sponsor a Turkey (or other animal) This Holiday Season

turkey.jpg

The holidays are upon us and I am here to offer some easy, vegan gift ideas! First up, why not sponsor an animal on behalf of a loved one. With Thanksgiving right around the corner, consider sponsoring a turkey. Normally, the organization will send a picture of the “adopted” animal that you can present as a gift to an animal lover or child. It’s a great way to educate the little one’s in your life about farm and domestic animals.

Different types of sponsorships are available, such as one-time only, monthly, and more. Choose from all types of animals too. This will work for all budgets. For as little as a one-time $20 donation, you can sponsor a turkey. But, hey, if you have deep pockets, then how about a one year sponsorship. Big or small, an animal sponsorship is a great, vegan gift and it’s easy! Just sign-up online and in a couple of weeks, you’ll receive a picture of the adoptee.

Maybe you know someone who has a fondness for turkeys or pigeons or sheep. Check out some of the organizations below and sponsor an animal today.

Farm Sanctuary adopt-a-turkey

IDA Africa sponsor a chimpanzee

SASHA Farm sponsor an animal (farm and domestic options)

Woodstock Farm Animal Sanctuary animal sponsorship

More gift-giving ideas to come. Until then, happy Thanksgiving! May you be blessed with a delicious vegan meal this Thanksgiving or at the very least, a delicious vegan option at your Thanksgiving celebration.

World “GO VEGAN” Days (October 26-28)

World Go Vegan Days run October 26-28. I realize there are a lot of animal celebration days this month, and I think we should celebrate animals everyday. I feel compelled to challenge all of you non-vegan readers to go vegan for the next three days. Why not pretend you’re vegan for just three short little days. Who knows, you might just like how it feels!

They say that a vegan saves approximately 95-100 animals each year. That means you could save almost one animal in just three days…or possibly a whole chicken or three whole fish. Try eating tofu or seitan. How about giving up dairy this weekend? Give the mama cows a break. And, if you’re going shopping, buy only vegan clothes and accessories. It’s just three days. I know you can do it! Let me know how it goes.

For all you vegans out there (Did you think I forgot about you?! No way.), I challenge you to introduce veganism to someone, anyone, young or old. Take them to a vegan restaurant or cook them a tasty meal. Doesn’t matter what you do, just do something!

World Go Vegan Days are sponsored by: In Defense of Animals and others

National Feral Cat Day (Oct. 16)

From time to time I can’t help but use this blog to raise awareness about issues and problems close to my heart. Anyone who knows me, knows that I adore cats with my whole heart. The old saying “Love me, love my cat(s)” very much applies to me. With that said, October 16 is National Feral Cat Day.

Feral cats are not socialized animals and are not the same as stray cats, which are either lost or have been abandoned. Stray cats can normally be re-socialized if necessary. Feral cats are the offspring of lost or abandoned cats as well as other feral cats. They have never lived indoors. Feral cats are not generally adoptable, however, feral kittens have a much better chance of being socialized, so adoption is possible. To reduce the feral population, these cats need to be spayed or neutered. Otherwise, they will keep producing kittens and the cycle continues.
