Making Vegan Easy Week 17 Round-Up

Enjoy these making vegan easy tips-of-the-day from my Facebook page, and share with your friends and family. Let’s change the world together.

Tip #113: Celebrate Earth Day everyday.

Go outside and spend some time in nature. Enjoy what Spring has to offer. Take a walk, ride a bike or have a picnic. I promise you won’t regret it. Love planet Earth. Home sweet home.

Tip #114: Try jackfruit.

It’s a “meaty” like fruit that can be used as a meat substitute. I ate it for the first time last year at a restaurant in Madison, WI. It was delicious in a BBQ sauce. You will want to buy it canned in water (not a sugary syrup). It’s available at Asian markets. The recent issue of VegNews has a delicious jackfruit curry recipe. We made it last night with a lot of fresh spices and it was a wonderful aromatic experience. If you haven’t tried jackfruit yet, give it a try. I think you will like it.

Tip #115: Read to your kids.

The new book, Vegan is Love, is now available. Isn’t it great there are vegan books for kids too.

Tip #116: Eat out.

Mercy for Animals has an excellent web page of restaurant guides. But if you live in an area where vegan food is hard to come by, then use their detailed “how to” guide to get vegan dishes added to menus of your favorite restaurants. MFA has successfully worked with many restaurants in Chicago. It may takes some effort but it will be worth it.

Tip #117: Spring clean.

Say no to harsh chemicals and animal testing, and make your own safe and cruelty-free cleaning products. My favorite cleaning supplies are baking soda and white vinegar. I use those a lot to clean the kitchen and bathroom.

Tip #118: Eat fiber.

I like this article, not because it’s about weight loss, but because it talks about “crowding out” and instead of “cutting out.” It’s a positive shift on making healthy food choices.

Tip #119: Spice it up.

Cinco de Mayo is May 5th. Celebrate with some homemade vegan Mexican food. I fell in love with Mexico last year and I’m celebrating with a tortilla making party.

Making Vegan Easy Week 12 Round-Up

Happy spring, my friends. It’s a great time for new beginnings, which means the perfect time to pass on these weekly easy vegan tips to friends and family. Being vegan is healthy and makes the world a nicer place. In nutshell, it’s good for us and good for the world. If you believe in it, tell a friend today.

You never know who might be interested. Just last week, a co-worker intentionally ate a vegetarian lunch after I mentioned the Great American Meatout on Facebook. Let’s change the world, one meal at a time.

Tip #78: Get started.

In honor of national meat out week, order a vegetarian starter kit for yourself or a friend. Hey, how about ordering one for each of your friends and family members and have them mailed directly to their homes. Surprise them!

Tip #79: Vegans take to main street.

Post your photo and a sentence or two about yourself on Main Street Vegan. Let’s show the world who we are.

Tip #80: The new kid on the block.

The new Daiya Vegan Cheese Wedges are available on veganessentials.com. So if you are dying to try this stuff, well then, order some today.

Tip #81: Check out the Vegan Cuts Easter Guide.

There are coupon codes too, so you can get your vegan chocolate bunnies just in time for Easter. (Remember, tip #35: vegans eat chocolate too.)

Tip #82: Be the change.

Watch the new documentary, Hungry for Change, by the folks from the Food Matters film. It’s available online for free through March 31st. I just watched it. If you need some health inspiration, it will do the trick.

Tip #83: Tell someone–anyone–about Meatless Monday.

Don’t assume “they” won’t do it. You never know who will give it a try. Allow for the possibility. Be prepared to help when someone takes you up on it.

Tip #84: Watch and learn.

Check out this website to see documentaries online (some are free). Many of the films are food related.

Making Vegan Easy Week 11 Round-Up

Another week done. I’m learning all kinds of things by writing these daily vegan tips including finding new vegan magazines, where to watch movies for free online and much more. Stay tuned for more easy vegan tips or like my Facebook page to read them daily. Enjoy your week!

Tip #71: Watch Go Further with vegan environmentalist Woody Harrelson.

Check NetFlix or Amazon for the full movie.

Tip #72: Check out Chickpea magazine.

I haven’t read this magazine published for the vegan community but I sure want to.

Tip #73: Eating meat is risky.

NPR and CNN update the public on what we vegans already know.

Tip #74: Watch a food documentary and be inspired.

See Forks Over Knives and you will definitely want to eat healthier; Kris Carr will inspire you in her film, Crazy Sexy Cancer; and Vegucated is a fun film for everyone. Want more? Check out these well-known oldies but goodies: Food Inc., Super Size Me (free on hulu.com) and Fast Food Nation.

Lunch at the Airport

Tip #75: Be optimistic.

Expect good things to happen. This week I traveled to Arkansas. It was just a day trip for work. I had to eat lunch and dinner away and mostly likely at the airport. I did not prepare or buy any vegan food to bring with me. This goes against tip #25: Be prepared. Sometimes you just have to wing it, so embrace a positive attitude and go.

The NW Arkansas Regional airport does not have a restaurant yet, but there was a gourmet food shop that made me a veggie sandwich for lunch and for dinner. I had to make a special request because all the premade sandwiches used animal products. This leads me back to tip # 29: Speak up. We were given a voice and we need to use it.

Tip #76: See free health movies online.

Watch the Beautiful Truth, a documentary about the impact of diet on cancer. It’s free on YouTube.

Tip #77: The Great American Meatout is March 20th.

How about making a vegan meal for your omnivore friends or take them to a veggie restaurant this week? Let’s show our friends and family how tasty vegan food is.
