Making Vegan Easy Week 22 Round-Up

I’ll say it again and again. It’s easy being vegan! Follow my “making vegan easy” tips and soon you will say it too.

Tip #148: My favorite raw cookbook is Ani’s Raw Food Kitchen.

Try the Wakame Hemp Power Slaw.

Tip #148: Vegan Cupcakes Take Over the World may not offer the healthiest recipes, but they sure taste good.

If you want vegan cupcakes, you can’t miss with this book.

Tip #149: Being vegan is fun.

Let’s move the world past the old stereotype of the “humorless vegan.” It’s fun living compassionately. Don’t let all the sad stuff get you down. Focus on the positive, so we can be good role models for the world.

Tip #150: If watching videos of animal cruelty makes you sad or depressed, don’t watch them.

This does not make anyone a bad vegan. Be grateful there are folks who can handle this work of undercover filming, however, so that this information gets out to the public. I watch these types of video occasionally–maybe once or twice a year as reminder of why I’m vegan. The rest of the year, I just enjoy living vegan. What’s your strategy? Share in the comments below.

Tip #151: Exchange your favorite recipes with friends.

Let’s start here with online recipes. Do you have a favorite recipe that’s online? Share it with us today. One of my favorite vegan recipes online is from veganyumyum. This blog is no longer updated but there are a wealth of good recipes here. I have been making this one for years.

Tip #152: Attend a veg festival this summer.

Meet new friends, listen to vegan speakers and, of course, EAT!

Tip #153: Save money by making food at home.

I found this website by The Gentle Chef that offers up a number of vegan cheese recipes. I know I will be trying some of these recipes over the next few months!

Making Vegan Easy Week 21 Round-Up

Vision Board Snapshot

If you like to cook, than this week’s tips are for you. There are more vegan cookbooks on the market than ever before. Last week I shared my favorites on Facebook. What are your favorite cookbooks?

Tip #141: Shop at farmer’s markets this summer.

Visit Local Harvest to find one near you. After you do that, mark it on your calendar, so you don’t forget.

Food for Thought: Notice when you go what food is available locally each week and compare that to what you would buy at the grocery store. If you’re like me, it’s quite different. We are spoiled by how far food is shipped.

Favorite cookbooks week!

Tip #142: I use The Saucy Vegetarian more than any other recipe book. I eat a lot of salads and it includes tons of excellent dressing recipes. Bonus tip: Making your own salad dressing will save you money.

Tip #143: Fresh From the Vegetarian Slow Cooker is a solid recipe book for those who want to use a slow cooker. I never used a slow cooker until last year. I picked one up at a yard sale for five bucks and have been making a lot of soups, stews and rice puddings ever since.

Tip #144: Share with others.

Monday is Memorial Day in the U.S., so it’s a three day weekend for many of us. If you’re cooking out with friends and family, be sure to bring enough vegan food to share. MSNBC posted some tasty looking vegan recipes for Memorial Day.

Tip #145: Bake better.

If you like to bake, you’ll want to read these baking tips. Mis en place is #1 on the list (It’s easy being vegan tip #121).

Favorite cookbooks week continues.

Tip #146: Save time and make healthy food fast. Use a pressure cooker. You can make a tasty stew in less than 30 minutes, or cook dried beans in a snap. We have one pressure cooker cookbook.

Tip #147: The one cookbook I recommend every new vegan gets is Veganomicom. Every recipe I have tried has been a winner. Check out the PPK for recipes online, but go get the book! You won’t be disappointed.

It’s Easy Being Vegan Reason #3

Vegan Chef to the Stars

It’s easy being vegan ’cause Cashew Cream tastes delicious. It’s an easy-to-make alternative to heavy cream and cheesy sauces. Every vegan kitchen needs to know this recipe made with raw cashews and water. Yep, just two ingredients and a blender, and you’re all set. You can find the full recipe on Tal Ronnen’s website. Use Cashew Cream on pizzas, lasagna, pasta — the skies the limit.

Check out his beautiful cookbook, The Conscious Cook, too.
